Although not essential for engaging with the community there are many things a civic leader can do to be more effective online. This module provides a grounding in the relevant technologies that will help.
- Effective searching – the internet isn’t about talking or writing, it’s mostly about listening or reading. The amount of information available is often overwhelming for someone new to the technologies. However by learning how search works and how to refine your searches you can find the information you need much more quickly.
- RSS Feeds – As media fragments more and more and as citizen journalism increases the number of sites that are useful to a civic leader grows quickly. The most effective way of following a large number of sites is through RSS feeds. Knowing how to set-up and maintain an RSS feeder will save civic leaders hours.
